Princess Haifa Al-Faisal is the founder and chairwoman of the Zahra Breast Cancer Association and a social activist.
Zahra Breast Cancer Association's goal is to increase and spread awareness among women across Saudi Arabia for early detection, prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
The Zahra Breast Cancer Association was established in 2007. Princess Haifa is also a member of the founders’ council and the trustees’ council of Effat University for females in Jeddah. She is a member of the board of trustees at King Faisal Foundation and the board of directors of the ADHD organisation “Ishraq.”
The goal of Zahra Breast Cancer Association goal is to increase and spread awareness among women across Saudi Arabia for early detection, prevention and treatment of breast cancer. The association also cooperates with women diagnosed with breast cancer on a step-by-step basis for treatment and ultimate recovery.
Princess Reema’s work is highly relevant because of the impact breast cancer has in Saudi Arabia. According to the Saudi Cancer Registry, the majority of patients diagnosed with breast cancer are in an age group between 40 – 50 years old and predominantly premenopausal.
Breast cancer is the single leading cause of cancer death for women 20-59 years old in Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia. Princess Reema knows that breast cancer is a topic that must be addressed and awareness brought through media, social media, and events. Diagnosis and treatment in Arab states is ten years behind the USA and European countries.
